Each January, the energy for reflecting and committing to what we want is in the air. Some of us write resolutions, and others of us think about them. The aim of it is to make us better people, and (hopefully) in the process make the world around us better. One resolution you might consider is making your pets’ lives a little better by getting in tune with their soulful sides. Opening up spiritually to our furry friends can have enormous, positive effects on your life.
First, recognize that your pets are indeed in contact with something greater. Allen and Linda Anderson of Beliefnet.com write, “Have you noticed that pets demonstrate spiritual qualities – joy, unconditional love, creativity, gratitude – in abundance? If you want to develop a deeper spiritual connection with your pets, there are sacred practices that you can use. They allow human-animal relationships to move into greater awareness, enlightenment, and divine love.”
By getting on the same page as your pet, you are allowing yourself entrance into this world. The authors suggest some ways to achieve this. Keeping a pet gratitude journal can remind you of the many small ways they enrich your life. If you’re a meditator, invite your animal companion to join you on your spiritual journey. Express affection to them in the ways they appreciate, and try to see life from your pets’ point of view. You might also want to ponder why you and your pet are together, How are you serving each other, and what do they want to teach you? Once you figure that out, you are halfway to a spiritual epiphany. These are just some of the ways the authors suggest. I encourage you to read the article in full.
This could be the year that you bond with your pets in ways you didn’t even think were possible. At Petspeak, I will be happy to facilitate that expanded connection. Contact me today and let’s start working on it.
